It's time for part two of my 2020 gaming list, so let's get on with it!
Doom Eternal for the Xbox One.
The modern Doom reboot from a few years ago is getting a sequel, which is due out in March. Journalists recently got to play the finished game for three hours, and it's looking pretty good. The same fast paced, visceral combat from the first game returns, combined with new platforming sections and abilities for Doomguy. Of all the games in this list this is actually one of the games I'm looking forward to the least, so I may not rush out to get it on release day. I will pick it up eventually though.
Persona 5: Royal for the PlayStation 4.
This is a revamped and expanded version of Persona 5, much like Persona 4: Golden on the Vita. It adds more story, more characters and more dungeons to the existing campaign, which was already over 100 hours long! I never actually got around to completing the original version of the game, so this is a good opportunity to finally get it crossed off from my backlog pile.
Resident Evil 3 for the Xbox One.
After last years amazing remake of Resident Evil 2, Capcom have wasted no time at all in bringing us Resident Evil 3, completely redone just as its predecessor was. This not only means that the graphics will be brought up to modern standards, but the puzzles and structure of the game will also be tweaked in various ways, meaning that the game will still have some surprises to those who have already completed the PlayStation original many times.
Final Fantasy VII Remake for the PlayStation 4.
A mere week after Resident Evil 3 drops, we have Final Fantasy VII Remake, assuming it doesn't get delayed again. I am looking forward to playing through this again - it really looks like Square Enix have brought it fully up to date with a brand new action based battle system. If you prefer the old turn based style then that's still an option too. It's great that they're trying to cater to everyone, but will they actually pull it off? Also, this is supposedly only part one of the game, covering events in Midgar, so I hope it's not too long before the second part comes out.
Trials of Mana for the Nintendo Switch.
Seiken Densetsu 3 has reached near mythical status among fans of Square Enix RPG's over the years because it never got an official English release until recently. First the original SNES game was included in the Collection of Mana towards the end of 2019, now this year we are getting a full 3D remake of the game. I've been waiting for this one - every game in the Mana series we have received since the original version of this game has been flawed in some way, so it's great to be finally able to play the last decent game in the series.
Marvel's Avengers for the Xbox One.
I am putting this one on my list for now because I have faith that a decent game based on the Avengers can be done, but it remains to be seen whether the developers can actually pull it off. I like the sound of an episodic single player campaign where you take control of different characters. Not so sure about the multiplayer part, it sounds a lot like Anthem, and we all know how well that turned out!
Cyberpunk 2077 for the Xbox One.
Of all the games that I have listed so far throughout part one and part two, this has to be my most highly anticipated game of them all. It's an epic science fiction single player RPG from the same developers as The Witcher 3 - that's already plenty to get excited about. Then you throw in Keanu Reeves, amazing graphics and exciting first person combat with plenty of scope for upgrading your character. September cannot come fast enough!
I've run out of space again, so I will see you again next week for part three!
